Every now and then, you find something special in a skip or rubbish dump.
But it’s not often that the remains of a world-famous artist icon are among the findings.
Lisa Gherardini, who is reckoned to be the Mona Lisa model painted by Leonardo da Vinci, was originally buried in a crypt upon her death in 1542.
Unfortunately, her contents were destroyed by building works for a landfill site in the 1980s.
The woman with the inscrutable smile is no more.
Perhaps she’ll be re-incarnated as a skip.
