A supermarket’s food waste skips are now being stored inside a warehouse overnight in a bid to stop “skip divers” sifting through out-of-date products.
The decision was made after some residents of Machynlleth, Powys objected to the practice known as “skip diving”.
The town’s Co-operative supermarket, who claim they were worried about potential health risks of people going through food skips, have moved their bins indoors.
A spokesman said: “The Co-operative does not encourage ‘dumpster diving’, mainly because of the potential health risks posed by people consuming products that may have gone past their use-by dates.”
