Just over half of all councils in England have scrapped weekly bin collections and now collect the rubbish fortnightly.
Last year, Local Government secretary Eric Pickles announced plans for a £250 million fund to pay councils to revert to weekly collections – something that he described as a “basic right”.
However, it has been revealed that most councils across England have reverted to fortnightly collections – or are, at least, planning to – leaving some residents worrying about their overflowing bins.
Could skip hire be the answer for the country’s waste collection problem?
