Last month saw a skip hire company and a farm owner both fined after waste was kept illegally on a farm in Scraptoft.
Over 2,000 tonnes of waste was found at Scarptoft lodge farm by Environment Agency officers in September last year.
MJ city skip hire pleaded guilty to depositing the waste and the farm and were fined over £22,8000 in Leicester on 1st September of this year. The waste was contaminated with various materials including glass, polystyrene, wood, metal, plastic, as well as other items.
The farm owner, Kuldip Singh Kainth also pleaded guilty for letting the company dump the waste on his farm without an environmental permit. He was ordered to pay more than £5,800.
The skip company and farm owner were both convicted after the Environment Agency put the charges forward.
They visited the farm twice on 1st September 2011 and 20th September 2011 after Market Harborough District Council notified them that illegal waste operations were taking place. They found contaminated waste dumped on the site on both visits.
