The early hours of Wednesday morning saw former media personality Jimmy Savile’s headstone removed from Woodlands Cemetery in Scarborough.
The headstone was taken away at 1am yesterday so that it could be dismantled and put in a skip, before being sent to landfill.
The £4000 headstone, which was installed just three weeks ago, took around two hours to dig up.
Scarborough Borough Council sent workers to dismantle the headstone, who used floodlights to help them put the black granite material into a truck.
The three headstones, base, plinth and foundations that make up the grave are set to be ground down so that the inscription is destroyed.
Once the inscription is removed the remaining materials will be used as landfill.
