A recycling firm in Horwich has been fined for causing a great risk to the community, fire service and environment.
The recycling plant was fined over £5,000 for lighting large fire stacks that were bigger than the Greater Manchester Fire regulations had allowed.
After pleading guilty to four charges, Armstrongs Environmental Services was fined £5,658.20. The four charges were all for failing to reduce the size of the wood stacks in their processing yard based at Chorley Road.
There were also no fire breaks between the stacks, which increased the overall risk of the stacks
The charges took place at Bolton Magistrates’ Court after the oversized flammable wood stacks were discovered by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service who had been working with the recycling firm since 2009 to make sure wood stack were within regulations.
The stacks were said to be oversized and highly flammable.
