new waste contract for kier is spread around four councils

08 Nov 2012

Kier services division have been awarded a £120 million waste contract after teaming up with four councils to begin new waste and recycling collections.

The 10-year contract was awarded to Kier Service Environmental for a project that has seen four councils come together to save millions of pounds. The councils include Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex – Eastbourne, Rother and Wealden councils.

The contract is worth around £12 million per year and is set to cover 200,000 properties over the next decade.

As well as bin and recycling pick-ups it will also involve street cleansing and beach cleaning.

The contract will be formally signed in December and the councils will start phasing in the new waste and recycling collections at different times.

Eastbourne and Wealden are set to begin on 1st April 2013, followed by Hastings in July 2013 and then Rother in April 2014. The win for Kier has been confirmed this week.
