Newcastle-under-Lyme is a small market town in Staffordshire, lying just two miles from Stoke-on-Trent. Despite this proximity to Stoke, Newcastle was never actually directly involved in the pottery trade and successfully resisted being added to the Stoke-on-Trent amalgamation in 1930. This area has only just begun to tackle the issue of recycling, being a little slower on the uptake than other areas in the UK. In fact up until July 2016 residents only had two bins – one for garden waste and one for everything else. In June of this year, residents were provided with three boxes enabling them to start recycling things more successfully and simplifying Newcastle-under-Lyme’s waste service in the process. Residents in the area now have a red box for metals and plastic, a green box for glass and cardboard, and a blue box for paper, small appliances, batteries, textiles and clothing. These changes were made in order to provide the residents of the area with a much better recycling service, something that we at TopSkips thoroughly support. With over 100,000 satisfied customers since 2003 and a 76% retention rate – giving the customer exactly what they need regarding skip hire is the main focus of our day.
This market town which lies 10 miles east of Stoke-on-Trent is an ancient borough that became a major producer of textiles following the industrial revolution. Most of the town lies above 600 feet at the foot of the Peak District National Park and is often referred to as the gateway to the Peak District. It is an area that is governed by the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, who in February 2016 undertook a review of its rubbish collections across the district. Two of the recommendations that came out of this review have now been put in place – the closure of recycling centres across the region and the introduction of charges for non-domestic waste being taken to the Leek Recycling Centre. The closure of the neighbourhood recycling centres comes as a reaction to the fact that residents are now able to recycle more things through their usual kerbside recycling system. We at TopSkips think that this is great, as more and more people are using our services to dispose of waste carefully and responsibly, which is much better for the environment. We ensure that our skip hire services comply with EA legislation.
Uttoxeter lies close to the River Dove and is a market town with a population of just over 13,000. One of the main employees in the area is JCB who have their HQ and main factory here, with another employer being Fox’s Biscuits. JCB are well known for their involvement in the global construction, demolition and agricultural markets – something that we at TopSkips also know a lot about. We are the company that most people turn to when they are looking for local, affordable, and trusted skip hire in Uttoxeter. Our local depot and fast response mean that more often than not we are able to provide a same-day service for ‘off-road’ skip hire in many areas, whether you are a domestic or a commercial company.
Cannock lies to the south of Cannock Chase, which is designated as an area of outstanding beauty, and was a small mining town until the onset of the industrial revolution. Sadly the last mine in the area closed in 1993, and it is now a quiet suburb which is popular with people commuting to work in the wider Stoke-on-Trent area. Cannock Chase Council recently undertook a campaign to raise awareness of contamination in residents recycling which revealed that 87% of the district was doing well and getting the right things into the right bin. This was because it was felt that there was some confusion amongst residents as to what should go in which bin, as the number of rejected items coming from their blue bins was increasing. The council have worked hard to educate customers on what should go in what bin, and this seems to have paid off. At TopSkips removing and disposing of waste safely and in a way that is environmentally friendly is very important to us. We also take the hassle out of hazardous waste removal with our hazardous waste removal service, designed as a simple and low cost solution to the disposal of waste deemed to be harmful such as solvents, motor oils, light bulbs, medical waste and much more.
